A New Power Supply

I've been fully pleased with my Gator Cases G-BUS8 power supplies as far as powering abilities go, but one of the things that bugs me about them is the main unit's power adapter — it's just too flimsy. I have a lot of gear on my board, and I have to move a lot of cable around — so I need something that I know will stay in place.

So, after a bit of research, I decided to go with BBE Sound's Supa Charger power supply. Stupid name aside, this ought to suit my needs quite well — and it's less expensive (a whopping $20 less) than the more recognizable Pedal Power 2. Truth be told, these are pretty much identical — but the BBE isn't made in the USA.

It ought to arrive next week, then I'll give a run against the G-BUS8 and see how it fares.

Sadly, from my experience, that means it will be more durable anyway. BBE makes good gear. I’ve used their Maximizer outboard and plugin for a long time. There’s nothing better for sweetening the final mix.

They’re pretty much the same. The only difference that I noticed is that the Supa Charger can’t be run at 18v. If you have a pedal that benefits from high headroom, this *might* be an issue.

My PURE can accept 18 volts, but I’ll never use it that way. Other than that, any pedal that benefits from 18v will work just as well at 16v if needed.

Remember: the first stage in an effect (99.9% of the time) is a voltage divider, so you’d be getting 8 volts per division as opposed to 9 volts per division. That 1 volt of difference just doesn’t pan-out to be worthwhile, simply due to the nature of most effect circuits.

Agreed. The only way you’d miss it is if you had a meter attached…
