Fonts

Did I just put a placeholder page up for fonts? Did I make it public? Has the Earth fallen out of its orbit? Yes, yes, and no!

With that cleared-up, hold onto your hats, because I'm back to being the Alphabetician I was oh so many years ago, and I'm about to start releasing some of my old — and NEW (of course) — fonts for public consumption. In the mean time, here are a couple of previews...

This page will be my repository for icons I have made — and where you'll find all the new ones I will be making. Obviously not much is here yet — but keep your eyes peeled. Song List

I threw this page together real quick-like to make it easier to have a single spot to grab MP3s and stuff. So, bookmark this page if you're so inclined, and I'll add tracks as we pick more songs.

Here are some songs we've tossed about:

BrightPoint for Children

My wife and I have a special place in our hearts for the children of Kenya, and in an effort to help these poor, needy, and beautiful kids, we have begun serving alongside BrightPoint for Children — an organization that helps Kenyan children through sponsorship. We serve as "Point People," which means the children in a home that we work with will only receive sponsorship if we find sponsors for them — so it's a wonderfully fulfilling, exciting, and challenging job.

We are currently working with the Rhema Kinangop Children's Home in Kenya, a home for 24 children ranging in age from 4 to 14. These children all need help with their Basic Needs: food, clothing, shelter, health care, and adult care — all of which are needed in order to attend and succeed in school (attending school is a requirement for sponsorship, too). The children are sleeping 2-3 to a bunk, and the long term plans are to expand the facility to better accommodate these children — and possibly take in a few more. Some of the Rhema children have special needs as well.

With Rhema, BrightPoint has left 11 children online so that anyone can sponsor them from anywhere in the world. The remaining 13 children will be handled by me, personally, from within my own local community — so they have been removed from the online site (this avoids double-sponsorship). I ask that all my readers visit the Rhema Kinangop page to read more about their dire situation, and to consider sponsoring one (or more) of these children. And if not Rhema, please consider sponsoring a child in one of the other Homes.

I want to quickly point out that my wife and I receive no personal gain from this, outside of the joy of helping these wonderful children. We have nothing up our sleeves, we receive no special tax breaks or incentives, etc. — it's all about helping these kids because we have the desire to do so. With that said, here are few specifics about BrightPoint and their sponsorship programs (all of which is available on their web site):

I encourage you all to visit BrightPoint's web site and spend some time reading though the wealth of information they have provided. Their FAQs Page will be of particular interest — and feel free to email Jane if you have any questions the site doesn't answer. And, of course, feel free to with any questions, too.

As more homes become available and in need of "Point People," my wife and I will add them to our responsibilities — so be sure to check out this page every so often to see if we've added more children in need! Thanks for considering — please help us help these children. It may seem like an uphill battle, and it is — but these lives are worth fighting for.

Thank You

About

For quite some time, I've been describing myself as follows:

A Christ Follower, husband, guitarist, baker, effects builder, cigar snob, photographer, and a general tinkerer. I'm also a mysophobe, so please remove your shoes and wash your hands before entering my house or shaking my hand.

I'm still pretty happy with that basic description since I'm a pithy kind of guy, but I guess I could go into a bit more detail. So hold on, and let's see where we go with this. First off, I'll share some thoughts on my "design principals"...

I am a lover of nuance. I like using a lot of small details to create large impact, as opposed to using something flashy and extremely eye-catching. I believe in a person's ability to see and realize detail without being conscious of doing so, and I believe that "subconscious detail" is what leaves a lasting impression in that person's mind.

In my photography, I push and pull colors, shadows, light, and texture — all to reinforce (or re-imagine) the emotion of the situation. I like my images to be so full of range and detail that you can spend minutes looking over every portion, discovering new intricacies and detail all over the frame. I believe there's an almost primal part of our brain that reacts to depth and color, and I try to tap into that area with my images via contrast, color, and texture.

My interface and interior design principals follow the old adage "less is more," and "simple, clean, refreshing, and light" are goals I set for myself when working on something I expect others to interact with. I've had the pleasure and honor of consulting for entities like Apple, Microsoft, Target, Home Depot, The Gap, and many others. With each, I brought my idea of "simple is better than sloppy" to the table in an effort to help them create more inviting and user-friendly software and web sites.

The above principals also apply to my music, and always have. I prefer simple emotion over flashy instrumentation, and I've always felt that less is more. I believe a song is about the story being told, and it's up to the rhythm section to support that story without getting in the way of the melody. I believe harmonies and solo-lines are seasoning, not the main course, and both should be used sparingly — and only when they bolster the story.

And there you have it: my basic ideas of design and imagery. Outside of that, I'm a proud native Texan with a wonderful wife and family. I've been in the world of graphic design since 1989, and I've been playing guitar, bass, and piano since 1986. I have Masters Degrees in both Theology and Philosophy, and a Minor Degree in Religious Education. My wife and I love to travel, and she's the best friend I could ever ask for. I play music at our church every week, and I'm highly opinionated.
