Catching-Up

The joys of "social networking," no? I'm old enough to remember the days of wanting to write someone, yet knowing it would cost you a stamp to do so — and now, we have so many virtual ways to keep in touch with everyone, it's hard to keep track of what we're posting where, etc., etc. So it's been with this site, which is currently being completely retooled and primed for an all-new look and feel in the coming weeks and months. I will admit that I spend most of my "networking" time over on Facebook, but I have renewed focus and reason for spending more time here, at my personal web site. Some of those things I will delve into now...

In 1992, I begged my parents to buy Macromedia Fontographer for me for Christmas — and back then, it was a $400 plus piece of software, so it was a pretty big item to ask for, seeing as how it seemed to be more a "toy" or "free time" bit of code. Nevertheless, Mom and Dad pulled through because they knew how much I wanted it — and so began my love of creating typography. My first font, "Chop Block," was completed 3 days after I got Fontographer installed. Fast forward to 2010, and after a 5 year hiatus, I'm back on the font-making wagon. I am once again an Alphabetician. I will soon be selling fonts again, creating fonts for clients, and having some of my creations listed on MyFonts.com. I am extremely excited about tackling ascenders, descenders, kerns, and hints again! Stay tuned for more on this.

Another cool "thing" I'm looking forward to doing this year is participating in National Novel Writing Month. Beginning November 1 and lasting through November 30, participants are challenged to blast-out a 50,000 word novel with no real preparation beforehand. It's an exercise in performance and doing something new and creative, all deadline-based and fueled. What stinks is that's it's still 4 months away. Hopefully I can make it through the process with something not too embarrassing by the deadline's end.

My guitar effects pedal business, RAILhead Effects, is going wonderfully smooth. I'm just busy enough, which is perfect. I have some sweet ideas for some new effects, as well, but those will come into fruition after we get done with our home remodel/additions, where I'll have a dedicated shop. Hopefully everything will be completed within 4 months. Ugh.

Outside of this, things are going well. My foot has pretty much completely healed, and there are no signs of the tumor returning (for those that have no idea what I'm talking about, I had to have my right big toe amputated because of a (thankfully) benign tumor). I go back in August for another checkup. I'm in the process of getting a prosthetic, and that will enable me to wear flip-flops and comfortable shoes like that, because as it stands right now (no pun intended), I don't have enough of a big toe to keep flip-flops on my foot. =/

My wife has started a cake baking business, and it's a lot of fun. It's called The Uncommon Cakery, and you can get more info on the "under construction," official web site, or on the Facebook page.

I've mentioned beforehand about our band, The Lillian Pearl. We're still going strong, and we're about to ramp-up our rehearsals and concerts for the 2010 summer. You can stay up to speed by visiting our official web site, or joining the band's Facebook page.

Well, it's 12:37am now, and I have a boat-load of stuff to do tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled for more content over here at my main site.

Still Here — Just Busy…

I've been flooded with messages over the last month asking if I'm okay and stuff — and I really appreciate them! And yes, I am fine, but I've just been crazy-bust with some new projects — all of which will be divulged soon. I know I've neglected this site for a bit, but that will soon change as I get back into the sync of things.

Stay tuned!
